Col Shashikant Dalvi

Colonel (retd.) Shashikant Dalvi served with the Indian Army from 1969 to Feb 2002. During that time, he participated in the 1971 war to liberate Bangladesh. He was also involved in cutting edge technological achievements to enable defence machinery to operate at sub-zero temperatures in high altitudes.

Post retirement, he implemented Pune city’s first roof-top rain water harvesting project in 2003 in his housing society. This resulted in a ‘water tanker’ free society, which saved costs AND improved the water table in Viman Nagar. After that, he started spreading awareness on water conservation and also set up Parjanya, a pioneering rainwater harvesting consultancy. He successfully helped more than 400 different organisations like Housing Societies, Schools, Colleges, Hospitals, Industry etc to improve the falling ground-water table in their locations and to overcome water shortages.

Col (retd.) Dalvi has spread awareness through seminars, lectures and workshops in schools, colleges, community centres, corporate events and industry. Since July 2015, he is a part of the Times Of India “News in Education” campaign, to spread awareness on water conservation in 120 schools in Pune. Col. Dalvi has also trained as a Climate Reality Leader under Nobel Laureate, and serves The Climate Reality Project India as the District Manager for Pune.

In recognition to his untiring work in the field of environment, he has won multiple awards like the Prithivi Door Award from Bluewiss Environment Enrichers Pvt Ltd, Friend Of Environment 2012 from the National Congress Party and the, Rotary Club of Poona Vocational Service Award.
